Celebrating Canada Day in Kasugai City, Japan

On June 28, TJCS proudly hosted 2026 Canada Day Celebration, welcoming more than 150 guests to commemorate Canada's 159th birthday.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and supported this special event!

This year marked the 45th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Kasugai and Kelowna, making the celebration even more meaningful.

The event began with our MC calling out, "Happy Canada Day!", followed by a joyful chorus of "Happy Canada Day!" from everyone in the room. It was the perfect way to begin the celebration, filling the venue with excitement, smiles, and a wonderful sense of togetherness.

TJCS President, Shōji Amano, then officially opened the event, followed by a beautiful performance of "O Canada" by De Tagarino, a band of lecturers from Chubu University. Their performance set a respectful and heartwarming tone for the event.

We were honoured to hear remarks from the Governor of Aichi Prefecture and the Mayor of Kasugai City, who reflected on the long-standing friendship between Aichi, Kasugai, and Canada. They also shared their hopes for the future as we look ahead to the 100th Anniversary of Japan–Canada Diplomatic Relations in 2028, inspiring everyone in attendance.

Representing Canada, the Consul of Canada in Nagoya expressed sincere appreciation for the warm messages from the Governor and Mayor, shared heartfelt thoughts about Japan and the enduring friendship between our two countries, and then proposed the toast that officially began the reception.

As guests enjoyed food, conversation, and reconnecting with friends old and new, De Tagarino returned to the stage with another wonderful musical performance.

We were also delighted to welcome Maya Courtney, Friendship Ambassador from Kelowna, who shared a message from the Mayor of Kelowna celebrating 45 years of friendship between our two cities and expressing hopes that this special relationship will continue to grow for generations to come.

The program continued with greetings from our sponsors and supporting organizations, followed by another excellent presentation by students from Sugiyama Jogakuen University. Their thoughtful and enthusiastic presentation brought smiles to the audience and added another memorable moment to the afternoon.

The excitement continued with our annual raffle, featuring more than 40 fantastic prizes, including a sightseeing flight, Canadian wine, restaurant vouchers, and many wonderful gifts from Kasugai and our generous supporters. Cheers and applause filled the room as lucky winners were announced.

To close the entertainment program, the TJCS band, The Maple Syrup Trio, delighted everyone with a lively performance that kept the joyful atmosphere going until the very end.

TJCS remains committed to building bridges between our communities through cultural exchange and international friendship.
