A Community You May Not Know You're Missing

If you're Canadian and living in the Tokai region - Nagoya, Aichi, Gifu, Mie, Shizuoka or nearby - there's a good chance you've built a comfortable life here.

You may be teaching, working in tech or manufacturing, raising a family, running a business, or simply enjoying life in Japan.

But here's a question we often hear from Canadians after they attend one of our events:

I wish I’d known about this sooner.

That's why we’re reaching out.

Who We Are

The Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven community that brings together people in Japan who share an interest in Canada and Japan - through culture, friendship, and business.

Think of us as a bridge:

  • between Canadians and Japanese
  • between social and professional life
  • between long-term residents and newcomers

While many of our members are Japanese, Canadians are at the heart of what we do - and we'd love to see more of you involved.

You Don't Need to Be "That Type of Person"

You don't need to be:

  • a business executive
  • a diplomat
  • a fluent Japanese speaker
  • a lifelong volunteer

If you're Canadian (by passport or by spirit) and curious about connecting with people who genuinely care about Canada-Japan exchange, you belong here.

Why Canadians Get Involved

Share Your Canadian Culture

Japanese members are genuinely interested in Canada - its culture, values, holidays, food, sports, and everyday life.

Simply showing up and being you already adds value.

Connect with Fellow Canadians

Living abroad can feel surprisingly isolating - even years in. TJCS events are a relaxed way to meet Canadians who get it without needing to explain everything.

Expand Your Network (Naturally)

Some events are social, others professional - but networking here feels organic, not transactional. Conversations happen over dinners, holiday events, talks, and casual gatherings.

Build Volunteer Experience

Many Canadians in Japan - especially younger professionals, teachers, or career-changers - use TJCS involvement as:

  • Resume-worthy volunteer experience
  • Proof of cross-cultural engagement
  • Community leadership experience

Support Your Career (Without the Hard Sell)

You may meet:

  • People working in Japan-Canada business
  • Professionals across industries
  • Long-term residents with valuable insight and connections

Sometimes the most meaningful opportunities come from simply being part of a community.

Attend First. Join When You're Ready.

You don't need to commit right away.

  • Come to an event
  • Bring a friend
  • See if it feels right

Many Canadians attend first, then later decide to become Individual Regular Members (¥5,000 per year) - not because they have to, but because they want to support the community.

A Personal Invitation

If you've ever thought:

  • "I should meet more Canadians"
  • "I'd like to be more connected here"
  • "I want to give back, but casually"

Then we'd genuinely love to meet you.

TJCS isn't about titles or nationality quotas.

It's about people showing up, sharing experiences, and building connections - one conversation at a time.

We look forward to welcoming you.
