今回、TJCSにとってフランス商工会議所との共催は初の試みとなりました。会場のスペースの都合により定員は全体で100人に限られましたが、予想を上回る反響をいただき、キャンセル待ちが出るほどの盛況となりました。

東海日本カナダ協会（TJCS）は2月10日、CCI France Japon（在日フランス商工会議所）、MOF MUSEUM NAGOYA、American Chamber of Commerce in Japan （在日アメリカ商工会議所）中部支部との共催で、新年会「ガレット・デ・ロワ（Galette des Rois）を祝う夕べ」を名古屋市のVollonで開きました。

TJCSは、これからも、国や地域、文化の垣根を越えて、人と人が出会い、信頼と友情を育む場づくりを大切にしてまいります。新しい一年が、ここで生まれたつながりとともに、実り豊かなものとなることを願っています。

フランス、アメリカ、カナダ、日本など、さまざまな国の約100人が参加。フランスの伝統菓子「ガレット・デ・ロワ」を囲みながら、スパゲティー、チキンなどの料理、ワイン、日本酒を楽しみ、国境を越えた交流が広がる華やかなひとときとなりました。

大切なつながり

「ガレット・デ・ロワ」は、「王様のお菓子」を意味するフランスの伝統菓子です。菓子の中には「フェーヴ（Fève）」と呼ばれる小さな人形が忍ばされていて、切り分けた際にそれを引き当てた人は王冠をかぶり、その日一日、王様（または王妃様）として祝福を受けます。

一年を幸運に過ごせるといわれています。会場でもフェーヴを引き当てた“ラッキー・パーソン”が紙製の王冠を戴き、周囲から祝福を受ける微笑ましい光景が見られました。

Although TJCS often collaborates with our good friends at the ACCJ, this marked the first collaboration between TJCS and CCI France Japon. Although attendance was limited to 100 guests due to venue capacity, the response exceeded expectations, and a waiting list quickly formed.

On February 10, 2026, Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) , together with CCI France Japon , MOF Museum Nagoya , and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) Chubu Chapter , co-hosted a New Year Party "The Galette des Rois Celebration" , at Vollon in Nagoya.

Through events like this, TJCS continues to foster meaningful connections across countries, regions, and cultures. We look forward to a new year enriched by the friendships and partnerships born from this special evening.

Over 100 guests from Canada, the United States, France, Japan, and other countries gathered for the occasion. While enjoying the traditional French pastry Galette des Rois, along with dishes such as pasta and chicken, as well as wine and sake, participants shared a festive and welcoming atmosphere that fostered connections beyond national borders.

Valued Connections

Galette des Rois, meaning "Cake of the Kings", is a traditional French pastry associated with the New Year. Hidden inside the cake is a small figurine called a fève. The person who finds the fève in their slice is crowned king or queen for the day and is said to enjoy good fortune throughout the year.

During the event, lucky guests who discovered the fève were presented with a paper crown and warmly congratulated by fellow attendees - a heartwarming scene that brought smiles throughout the venue.

Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) will hold its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 1, 2026 (Sun) .

This year's AGM will be held on a Sunday afternoon in order to accommodate as many Members as possible.

お腹も満たされたあとは、お楽しみのドアプライズタイム。

小さなカナダグッズのプレゼントに加え、参加者同士でプレゼント交換を楽しむ姿も見られ、会場のあちこちで温かな交流が見受けられました。

12月21日 (日) 18時より、The Hungry Mooseにてクリスマスディナーイベントを開催しました。

会場にはお子さまを含む約40名が集まり、ターキープレートをはじめ、それぞれが好きな料理やドリンクを楽しみながら、終始笑顔の絶えないディナーとなりました。

なごやかで笑顔にあふれ、心まで温まる(この日は気温も高めでした!)少し早いクリスマスの夜。

参加された皆さんにとって、思い出に残るひとときとなりました。

この夜のサプライズは、なんといってもサンタクロースの特別参加！

サンタの衣装のまま電車に乗って駆けつけてくれたという、思いがけない登場に、会場は一気にクリスマスムードに包まれました。

After everyone had enjoyed their meal, it was time for the door prizes.

Small Canadian-themed gifts were handed out, and we also saw some guests exchanging presents with one another, creating many heartwarming moments throughout the room.

On Sunday, December 21st, we held our annual Christmas Dinner event at The Hungry Moose Bar & Restaurant.

Around 40 guests, adults and children alike, joined us for a cheerful evening, enjoying turkey plates as well as other favorite food and drinks, all while sharing plenty of smiles.

It was a relaxed and joyful evening, full of laughter and warm connections - and even the weather was warm!

For both first-time attendees and regular participants, it became (albeit 4 days early) a memorable Christmas night to cherish.

A Visit from Santa

One of the highlights of the night was a special visit from Santa Claus.

Dressed in full Santa costume and rushing over by train, his surprise appearance instantly filled the venue with festive Christmas spirit.

カナダへのビジネス進出、移住テーマ

TJCSの天野彰二会長による挨拶で幕を開けたセミナーでは、在名古屋カナダ領事館のデイヴィッド・パデュー領事が、持続可能な成長を実現しているカナダについて「安定した経済基盤、豊富な資源、そして多様性を尊重する社会を背景に魅力的な投資先であり続けている」と強調。「最新の予算で、国際投資をより呼び込みやすくするため、積極的な税制優遇措置を導入し、ビジネス環境の魅力を一層高めている」などと説明しました。

東海日本カナダ協会（TJCS）とカナダ公認会計士事務所Manning Elliottは、名古屋市で、「カナダビジネス最新動向セミナー Doing Business in Canada2025」を開催。カナダ進出を検討する日本企業などから約50人が参加し、最新のビジネス関連情報や具体的なビザ取得情報などを得て、参加者同士の交流を深めました。

第2部のネットワーキングでは、予定時間を大幅に延長するほどの盛り上がりを見せ、次回開催を期待する声が相次ぎました。

続いて、カナダ弁護士事務所Remedios & Company（カナダ・ブリティッシュコロンビア州）の弁護士マトソン悠治氏が「カナダ移民制度の概要」について解説。カナダの雇用主が外国人労働者を雇用する際に提出するLMIA（Labour Market Impact Assessment）の説明に加えて、就労ビザといったビザ制度などについて解説しました。

The Seminar

第1部では、OGT Canada Enterprise Ltd.（カナダ・ブリティッシュコロンビア州）代表取締役の滝澤修氏が「それは人生の賭けだった　制限時間365日　個人事業でカナダへ移住」と題して、講演しました。

海外移住と海外起業の道に進むべく1999年3月、ケロウナ市に移住した後、2000年にカナダ産ワインの日本輸出業をスタート。さまざまな経験を経て今年の春、カナダワインの販売業務を終了し、この秋からアゼルバイジャン共和国のワインの販売を始めた経緯を踏まえ、業務内容のメニューのいくつかを撤退したり様式を変えたりしてビジネスのリスクを回避した経験などを話しました。さらに、毎年2回、カナダから日本に出張してきて、全国各地でワイン会や美しい所作講座を開催し、ネットワークを広げていることなども披露しました。

Manning Elliott（カナダ・ブリティッシュコロンビア州） のパートナーで公認会計士 デービッド・ディーボルト氏 と公認会計士の 落合大樹氏 は、「日本企業向けカナダ投資環境のアップデート」として、最新情報を報告しました。2026年のカナダ経済の見通しとして、GDP成長による緩やかなプラスの成長期とみているものの「米国との貿易摩擦に大きく左右される」として注視していく必要性などについて話しました。また、カナダでビジネスをする際にかかわってくる所得税などについて解説。どういった法人が課税免除されるかなど、納税義務や税務申告義務について、具体的に説明しました。

Business Expansion and Immigration to Canada

The seminar kicked off with opening words from TJCS President Shoji Amano and David Perdue, Consul at the Consulate of Canada in Nagoya . In his remarks, Consul Perdue emphasized that Canada "r emains an attractive destination for investment thanks to its stable economic base, abundant natural resources, and a society that values diversity.” He added that “under the latest federal budget, proactive tax incentives have been introduced to attract international investment further and enhance the overall business environment. "

The Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) , and Canadian CPA firm Manning Elliott co-hosted a seminar entitled " Canada Business Trends Seminar - Doing Business in Canada 2025 ". About 50 participants, including Japanese companies considering entry into Canada, gathered in Nagoya to obtain the latest business information and concrete guidance on visas, while also expanding their networks.

Part II of the event featured a networking session that was so lively it ran well past the scheduled time, with many participants voicing hopes for the next installment.

Next up, Yuji Matson , a lawyer at Remedios & Company (British Columbia), provided an overview of Canada's immigration system. In addition to explaining the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) that Canadian employers submit when hiring foreign workers, he covered work permits and other visa categories.

The Seminar

In Part I of the seminar, Osamu Takizawa, President of OGT Canada Enterprise Ltd. (British Columbia), delivered a talk entitled " It Was a Bet on My Life: Moving to Canada as a Sole Proprietor with a 365-Day Deadline ". He described moving to Kelowna in March 1999 to pursue overseas migration and entrepreneurship, launching an export business of Canadian wines to Japan in 2000, winding down that wine sales operation this spring, and beginning sales of wines from the Republic of Azerbaijan this fall.

Drawing on these experiences, he spoke about mitigating business risks by withdrawing from or redesigning parts of his service lineup. He also shared that he travels from Canada to Japan twice a year to host wine events and workshops on graceful comportment/etiquette across the country, which has helped broaden his network.

Finally, Manning Elliott partners David Diebolt, CPA and Hirotatsu Ochiai, CPA, delivered an update on Canada's investment climate for Japanese companies. Looking ahead to 2026, they expect modest positive growth in GDP but stressed the need to monitor developments closely, noting that the outlook will be significantly influenced by trade frictions with the United States. They also explained corporate income taxation in Canada, including which entities may be exempt and the related filing and payment obligations.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session featuring all of the evening's presenters.

青空と笑顔のキャンプカナダ 2025

大人23名、子供10名、合計33名が参加し、愛知・岐阜・三重に加え、カナダ、アメリカ、イタリア、ミャンマー、ニュージーランド出身の方々も集まり、国際色豊かな交流の場となりました。

9月13日～14日、三重県明和町・大淀ふれあいキャンプ場でTJCS恒例のキャンプを開催しました。

雨上がりのおかげで空気は涼しく快適で、翌朝は早起きして海に入り朝日を楽しむ人も。

昼間は釣りや海水浴、散策に加えて、子供たちは貝殻拾いを楽しみ、スカベンジャーハントゲームでは景品を譲り合うなど温かい場面も見られ、笑顔があふれるひとときとなりました。

夜には浜辺で花火を楽しんだ後、会場の一角で大きなキャンプファイヤーを囲み、マシュマロを焼いてスモア作りに挑戦。

星空の下で子供も大人も盛り上がり、夜遅くまで語り合う人の姿もありました。

TJCSキャンプは会員・非会員を問わず、どなたでも参加できるイベントです。来年もぜひ一緒に、自然と国際交流を楽しみましょう！

自然と交流を存分に満喫できた二日間となりました。

Sunny Times at 2025 Canadian Camping Event

Throughout the weekend, everyone enjoyed a wide variety of activities:

The 2025 TJCS Camping Trip was held on September 13 & 14 at the seaside Oyodo Fureai Campground in Meiwa, Mie Prefecture. A total of 33 participants joined the overnight event, including 23 adults and 10 children, with friends coming not only from Japan and Canada, but also from the U.S., Italy, Myanmar, and New Zealand.

Some woke up early the next morning to welcome the sunrise while swimming in the sea, while others stayed up late into the night enjoying heartfelt conversations...and perhaps a few libations.

Children had fun collecting seashells and doing a scavenger hunt , where they even showed kindness by sharing their prizes with one another. In the evening, the group gathered for a cozy campfire , roasting marshmallows , and making their very first s'mores .

Although heavy rain fell until just before the camp began, the skies cleared to reveal a beautiful starry night . Participants also enjoyed a fireworks display on the beach, and thanks to the refreshing air after the rain, it truly felt like an early autumn evening.

The TJCS Camp is open to everyone - members and non-members alike. We warmly invite you to join us next year to enjoy nature and cultural exchange together!

It was a peaceful and memorable weekend, filled with laughter, warmth, and international friendship.

2025 TJCS カナダデー・パーティー刈谷で初開催

ご参加いただいた皆様、ありがとうございました。イベントは、すべてTJCSメンバーによる手作りです。このイベントを機に、または本サイトをご覧になりTJCSの活動にご興味をお持ちいただいた方は、事務局までお気軽にお問い合わせください。

カナダの建国記念日「カナダデー」（7月1日）を祝い、東海日本カナダ協会（TJCS）は6月29日、カナダの食文化や人々と触れ合う毎年恒例のイベント「カナダデー・パーティー」を刈谷市のミササガパークで開きました。

今年は、ミササガ市との姉妹都市提携45年目となる刈谷市での初開催となり、約140人が参加し、交流を深めました。

イベントプログラム

カナダを感じるパーティーメニュー

イベントは開放感あふれるミササガパークのデイキャンプ場であり、参加者はミニバーガー、チキン、ポークステーキといった本格的なカナダランチプレートを堪能しました。また、椙山女学園大学から同大特製のビールが振る舞われ、会場は一層の盛り上がりを見せました。椙山女学園大学の学生たちもイベントに加わり、大学の活動を英語でPR。

カナダ国旗がはためく中、マッコーン・ブルースTJCS副会長の開会宣言でスタート。天野彰二TJCS会長、鈴木文三KIFA会長、芝垣亮介・椙山女学園大学教授による挨拶に続き、デイヴィッド・パデューカナダ領事の発声で乾杯が行われました。

来賓のご紹介

そして、最近TJCSメンバーに加われた、コストコ・ホールセールジャパンのケン・テリオ社長夫妻も参加され、30ケース以上のミネラルウォーターやカナダのチップスやクロワッサンなど、中部倉庫、守山倉庫店から直送で寄付していただきました。

エンターテインメント＆アクティビティ

その他TJCSのカナダ人メンバーによるバンド演奏、スポンサー提供の豪華景品が当たる抽選会、カナダにまつわるクイズ大会、カナダホッケー体験など多彩なプログラムが繰り広げられました。

カナダ・ミササガフェア

ミササガパークでは、刈谷市主催のミササガフェアも開かれ、メインステージには大村秀章愛知県知事、稲垣武刈谷市長、デイヴィッド・パデュー領事とともにTJCSの天野彰二会長もあいさつに立ちました。

In honour Canada Day , Canada's national foundation day falling annually on July 1st, the Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) held its annual Canada Day Party on June 29th (Sun) at Mississauga Park in Kariya City.

This year marked the first time the event was hosted in Kariya, commemorating the 45th anniversary of its sister city relationship with Mississauga . Approximately 140 people participated and enjoyed meaningful cross-cultural exchange.

Event Program

Refreshing Food and Drink

Set in the spacious day-camp area of Mississauga Park, attendees enjoyed a Canadian-style lunch plate featuring mini-burgers, chicken, and pork steak. Special craft beer brewed by Sugiyama Jogakuen University was served, adding to the festive atmosphere. Students from the university also took part in the event, presenting their university's initiatives in English.

Amid a sea of Canadian flags, the event began with opening remarks by TJCS Vice President Bruce McCaughan . Speeches followed from TJCS President Shoji Amano , KIFA President Bunzo Suzuki , and Professor Ryosuke Shibagaki of Sugiyama Jogakuen University. A celebratory toast was then led by Canadian Consul David Perdue .

Notable Guest

Among the special guests were (new TJCS Member) Ken Theriault, President of Costco Wholesale Japan, and his wife. Costco generously donated over 30 cases of mineral water, Canadian chips, croissants, and other goods directly from their Chubu and Moriyama warehouses.

Entertainment & Activities

The party featured a variety of programs including live performances by Canadian TJCS members, a raffle with prizes courtesy of gracious sponsors, a Canada-themed quiz competition, and a Canadian street hockey experience .

Mississauga Fair

Also happening in the park on this day, the City of Kariya hosted the " Mississauga Fair ".

On the main stage, speeches were delivered by Aichi Governo r Hideaki Ohmura , Kariya Mayor Takeshi Inagaki , Canadian Consul David Perdue , and TJCS President Shoji Amano .

A moving rendition of the Canadian national anthem, led by TJCS's own barbershop quartet, concluded the ceremony.

名古屋で歓迎レセプション

マギャールSOMA会長が、SOMAに関連する動きや地域の強みについて、次のように説明しました。

カナダのものづくり一大拠点エリアで構成される「Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance（SOMA）」のミッションメンバーを迎えたネットワーキングレセプション（SOMA, 在名古屋カナダ領事館主催、TJCS後援）が15日、名古屋市で開かれ、自動車、航空関連の企業などから約50人が参加し、SOMAの戦略や方向性などについて情報交換し、継続的なパートナーシップについて確認し合いました。

SOMAからは、レン・マギャール SOMA会長、ウッドストック市のジェリー・アッチオーネ市長、インガソル市のブライアン・ペトリー市長、ストラットフォード市のマーティン・リツマ市長、セントトーマス市のジョー・プレストン市長、パース郡のダグ・ケラム行政長官らが出席しました。

在名古屋カナダ領事館のデイヴィッド・パデュー領事が歓迎あいさつで「SOMAの日本訪問が20年にわたって継続されている」と強調し、参加者とともに、今後の継続的なパートナーシップを確認し合いました。

Welcome Reception Held for SOMA Delegation in Nagoya

During the reception, President Len Magyar provided an overview of SOMA's role and the region's competitive advantages:

A networking reception, hosted by SOMA and the Consulate of Canada in Nagoya and supported by the Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) , was held on May 15th in Nagoya to welcome mission members from the Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance (SOMA) - a major manufacturing hub in Canada.

The event brought together approximately 50 participants from sectors such as automotive and aerospace to exchange information on SOMA's strategies and direction, and to reaffirm the importance of continued partnership.

In his welcome remarks, David Perdue, Consul at the Consulate of Canada in Nagoya, emphasized that SOMA has been visiting Japan for over 20 years, highlighting the deep-rooted relationship and reaffirming with participants the value of continuing this long-term partnership.

Numerous Japanese-based companies operate in SOMA.
The presence of these companies creates an ecosystem that supports new Japanese investment, offering peer connections, shared experience, and opportunities to learn from existing executives.
This established network is a key selling point for attracting additional Japanese companies to the region.

春日井カナダフェスタ【イベント報告】

春日井カナダフェスタへのご来場ありがとうございました!

イベントでは、カナダワインやクラフトビールの販売、カナダ料理のプーティンを提供するキッチンカー、メープルクッキーやスモークジャーキーなどの物産展が並び、まるでカナダを旅しているかのような気分に。さらに、姉妹都市ケローナ市を紹介する展示や親子で楽しめるワークショップも開催され、大人から子どもまで幅広い世代が一日を満喫しました。

また、同会場では「サン・ジョルディの日」イベントも行われ、ハンドメイド作品の販売や花と本の交換体験なども加わり、いつもと違った新しい出会いが生まれるきっかけにもなりました。

2025年4月20日（日）、JR勝川駅近くのネクシティパレッタで初開催となった「春日井カナダフェスタ」は、約500名の来場者でにぎわい、大盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。会場にはカナダ・ケローナ市から市民約15名が来日し、国際色豊かな雰囲気に包まれました。ケローナ市民の皆さんは、訪れた多くの春日井市民から温かく迎えられ、笑顔と交流があふれる時間となりました。

春日井市長をはじめとする来賓の皆さまによるご挨拶では、春日井市とカナダのつながり、そして今後のさらなる国際交流への期待が語られ、会場全体があたたかい拍手に包まれました。

初開催にも関わらず多くの方にお越しいただいたこのイベントは、春日井とカナダとの絆を感じられる特別な一日となりました。ご来場いただいた皆さま、ご協力くださったすべての皆さまに心より感謝申し上げます。

Canada Fair in Kasugai (April 20, 2025)

A successful collaboration with Kasugai City!

The Canada themed fair featured a variety of attractions that offered guests a true taste of Canada, including food trucks serving authentic Canadian dishes like poutine, local craft beer and Canadian wine tastings, and a market offering maple cookies, smoked jerky, and other Canadian goods.

A panel display and video introduction to Kelowna helped deepen the understanding of the strong bond between the two cities. There were also hands-on workshops and family-friendly activities, making the event enjoyable for visitors of all ages.

Also happening at the venue was a Saint George's Day event, organized by the NPO Aichi Kasugaikko, featuring handmade goods, and flower and book gift exchanges. This created a unique blend of cultures and offered a fresh and vibrant experience that differed from previous local events.

Kasugai City, in collaboration with TJCS, held its " Kasugai Canada Festa " event - a cultural experience featuring Canada.

The event was held on April 20, 2005 (Sun) at Nexity Paletta (near JR Kachigawa Station) and welcomed around 500 visitors. Adding to the international flair of the event, approximately 15 citizens from Kelowna, BC (Kasugai's sister city) joined the festivities. They were warmly welcomed by everyone at the venue, creating an atmosphere full of smiles, friendship, and cultural exchange.

A warm welcome speech from the Mayor of Kasugai (who delivered his speech in perfect English), and other guests of honour highlighted the importance of the relationship between Kasugai and Kelowna, and the audience responded with heartfelt applause.

The Kasugai Canada Festa turned out to be a joyful and memorable day, bringing people together across borders. We extend our sincere thanks to all the visitors and everyone involved in making this event possible.

カナダ・エドモントンと日本のビジネス連携を探るイノベーションセミナー開催

水素ハブの構築などで世界的に注目されるカナダ・エドモントン。その最先端の取り組みを紹介し、日本とのビジネス連携の可能性を探る「 イノベーション促進セミナー 」（主催： エドモントン市経済使節団 、協力：TJCS、在名古屋カナダ領事館）が、2月17日にコートヤード・バイ・マリオット名古屋で開催されました。

東海地方を中心に企業や行政関係者ら約50人が参加し、情報共有やネットワーキングを通じて新たなビジネスチャンスを模索しました。

セミナーを通じて、日本とカナダの企業・自治体間での連携の可能性が広がり、今後の具体的なビジネス展開に向けた第一歩が踏み出されました。

その後、エドモントン・グローバル事業開発担当シニアディレクターの ブレント・ジェンセン氏 が「 エドモントン地域の強み 」と題して講演しました。

ジェンセン氏は、エドモントン市と周辺自治体を含むエドモントン大都市圏について、以下の四つの特長を挙げました。

エドモントン市経済使節団には、エドモントン国際空港CEO、エドモントン・グローバルCEO、アルバータ大学総長特別補佐、エドモントン商工会議所CEO、アルバータ産業ハートランド協会エグゼクティブ・ディレクター、API（応用医学）CEOなど経済・教育界の幹部約20人が参加しました。

開会にあたり、在名古屋カナダ領事館の デイヴィッド・パデュー領事 が歓迎の挨拶。

エドモントンの5つの重点分野

さらに、エドモントンが注力する分野として以下の五つを紹介。

カナダ最大の水素ハブとしてのエドモントン

ジェンセン氏は特に、エドモントンが「カナダで最初かつ最大の水素ハブ」として、国際的な水素供給において重要な役割を担っている点を強調。

エドモントン国際空港が飛行機の発着拠点にとどまらず、水素エネルギーの活用などによる脱炭素化のモデル空港として、世界の航空業界から注目されていることを紹介しました。

日本の視点から見るイノベーション

一方、日本からは、経済産業省イノベーション・環境局の 佐藤優斗氏 によるビデオ講演があり、政府視点からのイノベーション支援策についての解説がありました。

さらに、愛知県経済産業局、革新事業創造部の 唐松徹担当 課長が登壇。2024年秋に名古屋市昭和区鶴舞にオープンした日本最大級のオープンイノベーション拠点「STATION Ai」を紹介し、「愛知県の企業とぜひ連携を」とエドモントン側に呼びかけました。

日加ビジネス関係の強化

また、TJCS（在日カナダ商工会議所）の 天野彰二 会長は「カナダの最大の魅力は多様性。ビジネス環境が開かれており、受け入れられやすいのは大きなアドバンテージです。安全で生活の質が高く、熟練した技術者も多い。そして何より、人が温かい」と述べ、カナダでのビジネス展開の可能性を評価し、日本とカナダの交流の意義を強調しました。

未来の協力に向けたネットワーキング

セミナー終了後には、エドモントン経済使節団のメンバーと参加者のネットワーキングの場が設けられ、立食形式のビュッフェランチを楽しみながら活発な意見交換が行われました。

ジェンセン氏は「エドモントンの人口は約140万人。現在も人口は増加し続け活気に満ち、カナダで5番目の経済規模を誇り、アルバータ州内総生産の30％を担っています」と、その魅力を強調しました。

Exploring Business Collaboration Between Japan and Edmonton

Through information sharing and networking, attendees explored new business collaboration opportunities between Japan and Canada.

Edmonton, Alberta, a global leader in hydrogen hub development and innovation, showcased its cutting-edge initiatives at the "Innovation Promotion Seminar" held on February 17, 2025 at Courtyard by Marriott Nagoya.

The event, hosted by the Edmonton Economic Delegation and supported by Tokai Japan Canada Society and the Consulate of Canada in Nagoya , welcomed approximately 50 participants from businesses and government agencies, mainly from the Tokai region.

Mr. Perdue's opening remarks were followed by a keynote lecture by Mr. Brent Jensen , Senior Director Business Development at Edmonton Global, titled " The Strengths of the Edmonton Region ".

The seminar opened with a welcome speech by Consul David Perdue of the Consulate of Canada in Nagoya.

Japanese Perspectives on Innovation

From Japan, the seminar featured a video presentation by Mr. Yuto Sato of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Innovation and Environment Bureau, who discussed Japan’s innovation support policies from a government perspective.

Additionally, Mr. Toru Karamatsu , Director of the Aichi Prefectural Department of Industrial Innovation, introduced STATION Ai, one of Japan’s largest open innovation hubs, which opened in Nagoya in Fall 2024.

He encouraged collaboration between Aichi-based companies and Edmonton businesses.

Strengthening Japan-Canada Business Ties

Mr. Shoji Amano , President of TJCS, shared his perspective on Canada's appeal:

"One of Canada's greatest strengths is its diversity. It offers an open and welcoming business environment, with high safety standards, an excellent quality of life, and a strong workforce of skilled professionals. Most importantly, the people are warm and welcoming."

He emphasized the significant potential for business expansion in Canada and the importance of fostering Japan-Canada relations.

Following the seminar, a networking session was held, where attendees had the opportunity to connect with members of the Edmonton Economic Delegation.

面会は終始和やかな雰囲気の中で行われ、日加交流のさらなる発展について意見交換を行いました。

TJCSは、今後も名古屋市および東海地域における日加交流の促進に努めてまいります。

TJCS Leaders Meet with Nagoya City Officials

On February 28, 2025, the Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) visited Nagoya City Hall and had the honour of meeting with Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa of Nagoya.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, where we exchanged views on further strengthening Japan-Canada relations.

We met in the VIP room of Nagoya City Hall, where the Director-General , the Director of the Bureau of Tourism, Culture, and Exchange , and the Director of the International Relations Division were present.

TJCS remains committed to fostering Japan-Canada relations in Nagoya and the Tokai region.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mayor Hirosawa and the representatives of Nagoya City for their generous support.

Representing TJCS were President Shoji Amano, Former President Takashi Yamamoto, and Executive Assistant Aki Takahashi.

During this visit, Mayor Hirosawa graciously accepted the role of " Special Adviso r" to TJCS.

Following his predecessor, he will continue to support TJCS in its mission to promote Japan-Canada exchange.

カナダ市場の魅力カナダ進出に高い関心 51人が参加

セミナーは、TJCSの 天野彰二会長 による挨拶で幕を開けました。

続いて、在名古屋カナダ領事館の デイヴィッド・パデュー領事 が登壇し、カナダのビジネス環境や日本からの対カナダ投資の事例について話しました。領事は、日加修好95周年を迎え両国の貿易・経済関係が着実に深化している現状を背景に「カナダ進出の魅力として、現地の住みやすさが挙げられる」として日本企業の生の声を紹介しました。また、EV（電気自動車）、AI（人工知能）、グリーンエネルギー分野のマーケットが急成長している傾向や、若者を巻き込んだ取り組みの重要性についても触れ、日本企業と連携し実施しているブリティッシュコロンビア大の就業体験プログラム（Co-opプログラム）も紹介しました。

その後、三菱重工業で広島製作所長や名古屋航空宇宙システム製作所長を歴任した山田陽二氏が、「日本にとどまらず海外でも事業を展開する意義」をテーマに講演。豊富な国際経験を基に、カナダでの工場設立を通じて熟練労働者を活用できた成果やグローバルな視野での事業選択の重要性を強調しました。

東海日本カナダ協会（TJCS）は、11月13日（水）にカナダ公認会計士事務所「Manning Elliott」（バンクーバー市）との共催で、「カナダビジネス最新動向セミナー」をウインクあいちにて開催しました。カナダ市場への進出を検討する日本企業を中心に51人が参加し、カナダ市場のメリットや考慮すべき点、最新ビジネス事情について学ぶとともに、ネットワークを広げる機会を得ました。

質疑応答では多くの質問が寄せられ、参加者の関心の高さが伺えました。その後のネットワーキングでは、参加者たちがカナダ産ワインや軽食を楽しみながら名刺交換や情報交換を行い、活発な交流が続きました。セミナーは予定時間を延長するほどの盛り上がりを見せ、盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。

東海日本カナダ協会がManning Elliottと共催

さらに、Manning Elliott社の公認会計士デービッド・ディーボルト氏と落合大樹氏が、「日本企業向けカナダ投資環境のアップデート」として、最新情報を報告しました。両氏は、旭化成とホンダがカナダ・オンタリオ州でのEV用電池材料工場の新設を発表するなど相次ぐ日本企業の大型進出事例を紹介。カナダ市場進出のビジネスチャンスとして、 ① 「メイド・イン・ジャパン」への高い信頼性 ② ニッチ市場での優位性 ③ 円安によるメリット ④ 環太平洋パートナーシップに関する包括的及び先進的な協定（CPTPP）における連携 ⑤ 米国を含む複数市場へのアクセスの良さ－を挙げました。

規制などの課題はあるものの、ジェトロや商工会議所、日系金融機関などによる細やかな進出サポートを強調。また、ある日本の製造業者が拠点選定時に「ポートランドではなくバンクーバーを選んだ理由」として、カナダ政府や商工会議所からの「歓迎ムード」が決定要因になったエピソードも紹介されました。

Strong interest in entering the Canadian market attracts over 50 participants

The seminar began with opening remarks from TJCS President Shoji Amano .

This was followed by a presentation from Consul David Perdue of the Canadian Consulate in Nagoya , who discussed Canada's business environment and gave examples of Japanese investments in Canada. Consul Perdue highlighted the ongoing deepening of trade and economic relations between Japan and Canada, especially as the two nations celebrate the 95th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He emphasized Canada's merits as a destination for Japanese companies, citing its high quality of life, and shared real-life examples from Japanese businesses. He also touched on the rapid growth of markets in electric vehicles (EV), artificial intelligence (AI), and green energy, as well as the importance of engaging younger generations. Additionally, Perdue introduced a cooperative education program (Co-op Program) with the University of British Columbia, which involves Japanese companies collaborating on work experience initiatives.

Next, Yoji Yamada , former director of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Hiroshima Works and Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works , gave a lecture on the theme of " The Importance of Expanding Business Beyond Japan ". Drawing from his extensive international experience, he highlighted the benefits of leveraging skilled labour through the establishment of factories in Canada and emphasized the significance of strategic decision-making with a global perspective.

On November 13, 2024, the Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS), in collaboration with the Canadian accounting firm Manning Elliott (based in Vancouver), hosted a business seminar, " Doing Business in Canada " at WINC AICHI. The seminar attracted over 50 participants, primarily Japanese companies considering expanding into the Canadian market. Attendees gained insights into the advantages, considerations, and latest developments in the Canadian business environment while also expanding their professional networks.

The three captivating presentations were followed by a robust Q&A session, exemplifying the high level of interest of the participants. In the networking session that followed, participants exchanged business cards and information while enjoying Canadian wine and finger food, where the lively exchange continued. The evening was so well-received that it extended past the scheduled time, and concluded as a great success.

The seminar also featured presentations from Manning Elliott's certified public accountants, David Diebolt and Hirotatsu Ochiai . They provided updates on the Canadian investment environment for Japanese businesses, showcasing recent examples of large-scale investments by Japanese companies, such as Asahi Kasei and Honda's announcement of a new EV battery materials plant in Ontario.

The Manning Elliott team outlined key business opportunities in Canada, including:

Strong trust in "Made in Japan" products.
Competitive advantages in niche markets.
Benefits of a weaker yen.
Collaboration opportunities within the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Accessibility to multiple markets, including the United States

While acknowledging regulatory challenges, they emphasized the detailed support available from organizations like JETRO, chambers of commerce, and Japanese financial institutions. They also shared an anecdote about a Japanese manufacturer selecting Vancouver over Portland for its new base due to the welcoming atmosphere created by the Canadian government and local chambers of commerce.

愛知県知事や春日井市長、在名古屋カナダ領事 も駆けつけてくださり、カナダデーのお祝いに華を添えてくださいました。また、法人会員メンバーも忙しい中駆けつけてきてくれて、こうしたご来賓のおかげで、イベントはさらに盛り上がりました。

TJCS会長の 天野彰二 、在名古屋カナダ領事の デイヴィッド・パデュー の挨拶の後は、参加者全員でカナダ国家 "O Canada"を斉唱。カナダ人はもちろん、この日のために練習してきた日本人参加者も一緒に歌い、歌と共に心が一つになった瞬間でもありました。

6月29日（土）、名古屋市伏見にあるMidtown BBQにて、東海日本カナダ協会（TJCS）主催のカナダデーパーティーが開催されました。今年のパーティーは、約180名の参加者を迎え、盛大に行われました。

乾杯の後は、会場である Midtown BBQ 提供の、食事やドリンクを楽しみながら参加者の方々が交流されている姿も印象的でした。

そして、会の途中では参加者の方の更なる交流の促進やカナダについてより知っていただくためのクイズ大会や、スポンサーによる豪華景品が当たる抽選会も大盛り上がりに。

そして、パーティーに駆けつけてくださった 愛知県知事大村秀章様 からもご挨拶をいただき、その後は参加者様とのご交流を楽しんでくださいました。

乾杯を盛り上げてくださったのは、 春日井市市長石黒直樹様 です。カナダとの姉妹都市の交流を中心に、春日井市の企業とカナダの交流も促進してくださっています。

パーティーを実施した6月29日(土)は、梅雨の晴れ間となり、素晴らしい天気の元、多くの参加者とともに、カナダデーを盛大にお祝いすることができ、充実した一日となりました。ご家族連れの参加者もたくさん集まってくださり、みんなでカナダデーを祝うことができ、特別な思い出ができました。

Celebrating Canada Day in Nagoya, Japan

The Governor of Aichi Prefecture , the Mayor of Kasugai City , and the Canadian Consul in Nagoya were all in attendance, adding a touch of prestige to the event. Corporate Members also took time out of their busy schedules to join us, making the event a great networking experience.

After greetings from TJCS President Shoji Amano , and Canadian Consul David Perdue , all participants joined in singing Canada's National Anthem, "O Canada" - led by three Canadian jiji's .

On Saturday, June 29th, the Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) held its annual Canada Day party, this year, at Midtown BBQ in the Fushimi district of Nagoya. This year we welcomed nearly 180 participants.

With the Canada Day celebration well under way, attendees enjoyed ample opprtunity for mingling and networking while enjoying an array of casually-delicious Canadian party fare prepared by our hosts Midtown BBQ.

Midway through the event, a quiz was held to further promote interaction among attendees and help them learn more about Canada. There was also our always popular raffle with luxurious prizes, provided by sponsors, including bottles of Canadian wine, and a flight tour (for 4) over the city.

Aichi Governor Hideaki Ohmura was also in attendance and delivered a nice speech, after which he enjoyed mingling with the other attendees.

Perfect Weather for a Perfect Day

As always., we will be holding a Canada Day Party again next year, so be sure to follow TJCS and check back for details!

Colour me Canada!

The event took place during lunchtime, and the venue was decked out in Canadian colours. Our international team of tireless TJCS Leaders and volunteers collaborated with the Canadian Consulate in Nagoya to adorn the venue with banners and promotional materials promoting Canada.

The Who's Who of the Tokai Region

The official toast was delivered by Kasugai Mayor Naoki Ishiguro , who says that he enjoys promoting exchanges between his Kasugai City and Canada as he values Kasugai's sister-city relationship with Kelowna, BC.

The party was held on Saturday, June 29th, and the weather was sunny despite being in the middle of the rainy season. We were able to celebrate Canada Day in style with many participants, making it a fulfilling day. Many of the guests came with their families, and we were able to celebrate Canada Day together, creating special memories for sure.

TJCSは、毎月開催のTGIF、毎年恒例のキャンプ・カナダ、楽しいお花見、刈谷市及び刈谷市国際交流協会(KIFA)とのストリート・ホッケー大会、在日米国商工会議所(ACCJ)との共催による毎年恒例のシャンパン・ボール、そしてカナダ・デーの祝賀会(まさに日本で最高のイベントのいくつかです)などを通して、文化とコミュニティを結びつけ、活動の拠点であり続けています。これらのイベントは、私たちの生活を豊かにするだけでなく、カナダと日本、そして東海地方との絆を深め続けています。

ドニーと彼のジャズカルテットによる素晴らしいパフォーマンス、特にO CANADAのジャズバージョンの締めくくり、そしてエアカナダ、ミッドタウンBBQ、コートヤード・バイ・マリオット名古屋からの豪華なドアプライズをご提供いただいたお蔭で大盛況のうちに幕を閉じることができました。これらに深く感謝します。

さらに、イベントの計画、装飾、管理におけるTJCSボランティアとその他のイベントサポーターの献身と努力が重要な役割を果たしてくれました。そしてもちろん、私たちの重要な祝賀会を開催してくれたコートヤード・バイ・マリオット名古屋とそのチームに特別な感謝を申し上げます。

2024年2月2日、東海日本カナダ協会 (TJCS) はコートヤード・バイ・マリオット名古屋にて重要な節目、設立20周年を祝いました。

このイベントは「ノーザンライト(日本では"オーロラ”として知られている)」というテーマで、私たちの協会が20年にわたってカナダと日本の関係を育んできたことだけでなく、私がTJCS会長任期を全う出来た謝意を表す機会でもありました。

2005年の愛知万博カナダ館で当協会に入会して以来、私の旅路を振り返ると過去8年間、会長として、成長、協力、挑戦、数え切れないほどの記憶に残るイベントなど、さまざまな面でリーダーを務める機会に恵まれました。

The TJCS continues to be a hub of activity, bringing together culture and community through events such as our monthly TGIF gatherings, an annual "Canadian" camping trip, colourful hanami celebrations, spirited street hockey tournaments with Kariya City and the Kariya International Friendship Association (KIFA) , the always exciting and memorable Champagne Ball co-hosted by the Chubu Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), and the highly anticipated Canada Day celebrations - truly some of the best parties in Japan. These events, and more, continue to, not only enrich our lives but also, strengthen the bonds between Canada and Japan, especially in the Tokai region.

Our 20th anniversary celebration was made even more memorable by the video messages from attending mayors, present and past Canadian consuls to Nagoya, and past presidents of the society; and the wonderful slideshow capturing our 20-year history.

The success of the evening was greatly enhanced by the wonderful performance by Donny Schwekendiek and his jazz quartet (ending in a jazzy rendition of O Canada), as well as door prizes generously donated by Air Canada, Midtown BBQ, and the Courtyard by Marriott Nagoya.

Furthermore, the dedication and tireless efforts of our TJCS leaders, volunteers, and other event supporters in planning, decoration, and management of the event, played a pivotal role. And of course, a special thank you to the COURTYARD by Marriott Nagoya and their team for hosting our special celebration.

On February 2nd, the Tokai Japan Canada Society (TJCS) celebrated a significant milestone: our 20th anniversary .

Themed around the enchanting Northern Lights (better known as Aurora in Japan), this event was a celebration of our society's two decades of fostering Canada-Japan relations. It also marks my farewell as sitting TJCS President.

Reflecting on my journey since joining the society at the Aichi Expo Canada Pavilion in 2005, I've been privileged to lead as President for the last eight years, a period filled with growth, collaboration, challenges, countless memorable events and more.

Our anniversary celebration was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, highlighting the importance of TJCS's role in international relations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ambassador of Canada to Japan, Mr. Ian G. McKay ; Aichi Governor Hideaki Ohmura ; Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura ; Kariya Mayor Takeshi Inagaki ; and Kasugai Mayor Naoki Ishiguro . Celebrating Canada Day in Nagoya, Japan

As Canada celebrates its 156th birthday, we are delighted to be back at Canada House and its newly-renovated patio.

This event will offer the best of both worlds:

A chance to hobnob with the who's who of Nagoya with various VIP's with quality Canadian victuals and beverages.
A casual and relaxed feel with friendly, like-minded people, and some entertainment to boot!.

You will be entertained by Canadian rakugo performer Katsura Fukuryu (Derek Cavers), as well as some other surprises

Please note that registration for Canada Day is closed. This event is sold out.

Dress is smart casual (colourful cool biz), and as various dignitaries will be attending we respectively request that attendees dress accordingly. (Basically, no lewd t-shirts, ragged jeans, cut-offs, etc.. )

The annual TJCS Canada Day Celebration has gained a reputation as the not-to-miss event of the summer in the Nagoya area. Well, after a 4-year hiatus (thanks Covid!)... we're back at Canada House!

Canada Day officially occurs on July 1st, each and every year, and this year we will actually celebrate the occasion on the 1st!

Join us for a great event featuring delicious food, drinks (beer, wine, pop, juices and teas), and great friends!

This event is open to TJCS Members (and their families*) ages 13 and up, however the event is limited to the first 80 to reserve (with preference given to current members) so register now!

*Please note that qualified "family" includes a spouse and/or sons & daughters still engaged in education. Children having entered the workforce (shakaijin) are encouraged to join the TJCS separately.

Obviously, parents, cousins, adult siblings, etc. do not qualify as "family members" for the purposes of this event.

*If you are unsure about what to wear, we recommend wearing clothes that include red or white (Canadian national colors) or something related to Canada (pins, badges, maple leaves, etc.) to enjoy the event.

Canada's Sustainable Mass Timber Construction Webinar

在名古屋カナダ領事館では、そのマス・ティンバー建築に関するカナダにおける事例を、今回はオンラインにて西部アルバータ州より2社の代表者を迎え、カナダのトレンド、取り巻く環境を踏まえてご紹介致します。

また、それらの日本での可能性、実現性をBCWoodのジム・アイバンホフ氏より詳しく語って頂きます。

もちろん同時通訳が入りますので、言語に関するご心配はいりません。

～アルバータ州の2社の視点と日本での実用性～

今日、技術の進歩、新しいプレハブシステム、持続可能性、安全性、効率性を高める一連のプロセスによって強化されたマスティンバーは、木の温かみ、質感、美しさによって、建物の内部空間を自然と調和させています。世界の温室効果ガス排出量の10%近くを生産している炭素集約度の高いコンクリートや鉄鋼とは対照的に、木材建築は建設による二酸化炭素排出量を三分の一削減でき、工程も短縮されます。日本においても2030年SDGｓのアジェンダに明確にCo2削減の他、ゴール達成に向けたグローバル・パートナーシップ活性化が挙げられています。

各訪問では、TJCSの現状および将来の活動報告や、新エグゼクティブリーダーの紹介と懇親を深めるとともに、日ごろの感謝の気持ちをお伝えし、多くの時間を共有する機会を得ることができました。

今回、既存法人会員に加え、新規会員の皆様にお会いできたことを大変嬉しく、また、訪問中に受けたおもてなしに非常に感謝しております。

2017年の下半期も、今後の数々のイベントや活動により素晴らしいものになりそうです。

また、2018年のさらなる成長と機会を楽しみにしており、TJCSボランティアと会員全員の継続的な支持に感謝したいと思います。

Each meeting provided the opportunity to share an update of current and future activities in the TJCS, as well as much needed time for introductions, connections, and notes of appreciation.

It was a pleasure to see many of our long-time, as well as new members and we very much appreciate the hospitality we received during our visits.

The remaining half of (fiscal) 2017 looks to be a great year in terms of future events and activities.

Also, we look forward to further growth and opportunity in 2018, and again appreciate the continued support of all TJCS volunteers and members.

今年はカナダ建国150周年の年！今年はさらに大きなイベントで盛り上げます。

Celebrating Canada's 150th Anniversary, here in Nagoya, Japan

As Canada celebrates 150 years of Confederation, we have moved the event to a bigger, more family-friendly location that is also right down town! The venue is a lovely outdoor garden setting (with inside areas in case of rain) at Hisaya Odori Garden Flarie (formerly "Ran no Yakata") just south of Yabacho Station and Parco.

This event will offer the best of both worlds:

A chance to hobnob with the who's who of Nagoya with various VIP's in classy surroundings with quality Canadian victuals and beverages.
A truly family-friendly event with ample activities for children and the young at heart.

In the 4th installment of its Explore Canada series, the Tokai Japan Canada Society's Business Committee hosted an exclusive event promoting travel to Canada. The event welcomed four distinguished speakers from the Embassy of Canada in Japan, Consulate of Canada in Nagoya, and the TJCS itself.

2017年度年次総会及びカナダ大使、企業会員様との昼食会

年次総会では、各委員会（ビジネス、ソーシャル、カルチャー、メンバーシップ）の委員長による2016/2017年度の活動報告と、今後予定されているイベントについて説明がありました。協会の理事やエグゼクティブは、各委員会がイベントの機会を増やしながらも、その品質を向上させている事を喜んでいます。

また、今回、2つのリーダーが選出されました。

ジェームズ・ヘデン はTJCSの会長へ、そして ブルース・マッコーン は副会長に就任しました。この2名のほか、日本人側の副会長である出射幸治、そして続くリーダーの仲間達は、この協会を今後も盛り上げてまいりますので、みなさまご協力いただきますよう宜しくお願い致します。

2017年6月2日(金)、東海日本カナダ協会は年次総会を開催し、昼食会では新しく就任されたカナダ大使、 イアン・バーニー氏 を名古屋にお招きしました。

名古屋ヒルトンホテルで開催されたこの2つのイベントには、たくさんの当協会の法人・個人会員様、カナダ領事であるシェニエラサール氏、ならびにTJCSの理事や顧問の方々にご出席を頂きました。

ヒルトン名古屋　様には、コースの一つ一つにカナダを意識させるユニークな料理を用意して頂きました。通常、昼食会は企業会員様とTJCSのトップリーダーが対象ですが、2017年度は年次総会と一緒に開催されたこともあり、通常会員様にもご参加頂く初めての試みとなりました。

TJCSは、5年間に渡り会長としてご尽力頂いた山本様に感謝と敬意を抱くとともに、引続き理事としてご支援頂けることを嬉しく思います。

TJCSは東海地区のカナダのプロモーター（非公式）として私たちが目指すゴール・目的に、バーニー大使に興味頂き賛同頂けること、また、企業会員様、SME会員様そして個人会員の皆様には継続的なご支援を頂けることに大変感謝しております。

バーニー大使は、在日カナダ大使として両国のサポートを行う使命だけではなく、カナダ政府と行政が日本、アジア太平洋のために計画している活動方針などをお話されました。

最後に、今年はカナダ建国150周年を記念して、TJCSは7月2日にカナダ・デー/150周年祝賀会、11月17日にシャンパンボール、両イベントのテーマを“カナダ”として開催します。

2017 TJCS AGM and Ambassador Luncheon with Corporate Members

At the AGM, each committee representative and chair, (Business, Social, Cultural, and Membership) reported on activities from 2016 / 2017, and outlined all planned events and activities for the remaining part of this year. The TJCS Board of Governors and its executive leadership are delighted both with the continual increase in number activities as well as a consistent raising of the bar with respect to the quality of the content offered at the events and related positive feedback.

Also at the AGM, two positions of leadership were confirmed:

James Hedden was voted in as President , replacing Takeshi Yamamoto; and Bruce McCaughan was voted in as a Vice-President , filling the vacancy from Hedden's ascension. Both James and Bruce, along side our 2nd VP Koji Idei and fellow leaders, look forward to great things ahead and very much appreciate the support of volunteers and members alike.

On Friday June 2nd, 2017, the Tokai Japan Canada Society held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and hosted a lunch, welcoming the newly appointed Canadian Ambassador, Ian Burney , to Nagoya, the Chubu region, and to the TJCS.

The joint event, which was held at the Nagoya Hilton Hotel, was attended by both individual and corporate membership of the society, the local Canadian Consul, Chénier La Salle , as well as many of our honourary members and guests.

The Hilton Nagoya served a lovely lunch with uniquely-Canadian dishes at each course adding even more relevance to the event. Normally, an exclusive event for Corporate Members and top TJCS Leaders, the 2017 Ambassador Luncheon was also unique in that, as it was held in conjunction with the AGM, attendance was open to Regular TJCS Members for the first time.

The TJCS is grateful to outgoing President, Yamamoto, for five solid years of leadership as President (not to mention several years as VP before that). We look forward to Mr. Yamamoto's continued support as he joins the Board of Governors as President Emeritus.

The TJCS is grateful to Ambassador Burney for his time, as well as his attention to our goals and objectives with respect to our (unofficial) role as a promoter of Canada within the Tokai Region. We are also very grateful for the continued support of our Corporate and SME Members , as well as each of our Regular Members, all of whom contribute to the strength of the Society.

Once a year, schedule permitting, the TJCS organizes a luncheon where our Corporate Members can network and join an informal forum with the sitting Canadian Ambassador. On June 2nd, we were pleased to be able to welcome Ambassador Burney to Nagoya for the first time providing a high-value event for our Corporate supporters.

Ambassador Burney delivered a compelling talk outlining key activities and planned action for Japan and Asia Pacific under the current Canadian government and administration, as well as his own dedication as the newly-appointed Ambassador to Japan, to connect and support Canada Japan relations.

Finally, as this year represents the 150th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation , the TJCS will celebrate in style and host its Canada Day / 150 Celebration on July 2nd, as well as the Champagne Ball on November 17th, both with a Canadian Theme!

岡崎味噌蔵見学ツアー

地元神社お祭り体験

当日は好天に恵まれ、春の陽気を楽しむことが出来ました。最寄りの駅である名鉄岡崎公園前駅より徒歩圏内で行ける八丁味噌の老舗カクキューの味噌蔵に到着。暑さと珍しさからほぼ全員味噌ソフトクリームを買い求め、塩気と甘さがマッチした味噌蔵オリジナルスイーツに感動。味噌蔵はさながらテーマパークのようで岡崎の伝統産業である味噌造りの歴史を学べました。大きな樽に6トンの味噌を入れ上から3トンの重石を積み、3年以上熟成する味噌造りは何百年も前から変わっていません。見学の最後には味噌汁の試飲、味噌田楽の試食等も楽しむことが出来ました。おまけに一人1袋赤味噌の土産も付いており、入場料無料の味噌蔵見学ツアーはお得感満載でした。

平成29年5月14日、TJCSカルチャー委員会は岡崎味噌蔵見学ツアーを開催し、8か国19名が参加しました。内訳は日本人9名、カナダ人4名、オーストラリア人1人、フランス人1名、メキシコ人1名、ロシア人1名、アフガニスタン人１名、ベトナム人1名と国際色豊かなメンバーとなりました。

お昼からは食事の場所から徒歩30分の距離にある神社のお祭りパレードを見に行きました。このお祭りは江戸時代中期からの長い歴史を持ち、8台の山車で町の中を曳き回しする特徴です。パレードの途中で子供による踊りも披露され、たくさんの日本の伝統文化を十分楽しめました。

お昼には岡崎公園前駅の近くのうどん屋さんでランチを取りました。このお店はテレビで放映された人気のお店で30分並びようやく入れました。私達は大きな座敷の部屋に通され、味噌煮込みうどんをはじめいろんな種類のうどんを各自注文、畳の部屋のため、食事の後もゆっくりと出来ました。

最後に岡崎城をバックに記念撮影して解散。参加者全員満足のいく一日でした。

Okazaki Miso Factory Tour

Experience of Miso factory theme park & local shrine's festival in Okazaki.

Kakukyu Miso factory is a kind of theme park where we could learn how Miso is produced. The method of producing Miso has not been changed since days of old. A huge wooden barrel and big stones are still used. The only ingredients for miso are soybeans, salt, and water. Factory workers put soybean paste in a huge barrel and put on a lid, then put big stones as weights on the lid. After that, the beans are allowed to ferment for up to 3 years! The quantities are huge with the Miso itself weighing 6 tons, and the stones weighing 3 tons!

At the end of the guided factory tour, we could try original Miso soup and sample original Miso dengaku. We also received a complimentary small pack of Miso. What a wonderful spot, and admission is free!

On May 14, 2017, TJCS Cultural Committee organized a day trip to Okazaki to visit a traditional Miso factory and take part in a festival at a local shrine. A total of 19 people joined the event, hailing from all parts of theglobe including, Japan, Canada, Australia, France, Rosia, Mexico, Afghanistan and Vietnam.

The weather was sunny and we could feel the breath of spring. The first stop of the day was Kakukyu Miso factory. It was hot, many attendees tried Miso ice cream before starting the actual Miso factory tour. It was delicious, the perfect balance of salty and sweetness.

After lunch, we went to the local shrine to take in the festival where local people pull 8 different decorated floats through downtown Okazaki. Sometimes, the parade stopped so that watchers could see a little girl's Japanese dancing. We definitely experienced a lot of Japanese culture that day.

After the factory tour, we enjoyed lunch at an Udon noodle restaurant near the station. The restaurant has been featured on TV many times and is so popular that we had to stand in line for 30 minutes. Various kinds of noodles are available and the restaurant has a big tatami mat room where we could relax after lunch.

The end of the tour, we gathered at Okazaki Castle to take a group photo in front of the castle. Everyone was satisfied with such a great experience!

2017年はカナダとTJCSにとって特別で充実した年に。

今年2017年はカナダにとってとても特別な年。

150歳になるカナダを一緒にお祝いしましょう。特別な意味を持つ今年のカナダ。100周年が少し前の話のように感じるカナダ人は少なくないようですが、日本と比べたらカナダは赤ちゃんのようですね。

TJCSは TJCSリーダー達の手助けや数々のイベントの企画に興味あるボランティアの方をいつでも募集しています。

毎月第4月曜日に月ミーティングを行っていますのでTJCSに関わりたい、イベントのお手伝いやカナダを知ってもらう為の貢献をしたいと思う方、どなたでもご参加可能です。初めは慣れるまで聞いているだけで、という方も大歓迎。

Happy 150th Birthday Canada!

今年長期に渡る特別な祝カナダ年を皆で盛大にお祝い出来る事を楽しみにしています。

カナダ建国記念日は７月１日ですが、カナダ政府は "CANADA 150" と名付けた正式な奨励イベントとして促進しています。それをカナダ全土で年間を通して祝い、この素晴らしい記念年を盛り上げていきます。

それは日本も例外ではありませんよ。

東海日本カナダ協会としてもこの特別な年 CANADA150を最大限に祝いたいと考えております。まずは始めに今までの規模より更に大きいカナダデイイベント開催を計画しています。開催地は最近リニューアルを遂げた久屋大通庭園フラリエ（元ランの館）家族、お子様にも参加しやすい場所で。花と緑に囲まれたライフスタイルガーデンを一緒に体験しませんか。詳細については「イベント情報」をご覧になって下さい。

付け加えて Champagne Ball and Awards Evening/シャンパンボール（アメリカ商工会議所との共同開催イベント）でのテーマも今年はカナダ色が強く反映されています。この秋の恒例イベントにもカナダを更に感じられる事間違いありません。

Sesquicentennial: Who would have thought there was a word for it?

This year, 2017, marks a big year for Canada as it turns 150 years young!

It seems like only yesterday that Canada was celebrating its centennial year, and here we are celebrating its Sesquicentennial . Yes! There is a word for it. I mean, you would have thought something like, "tri-semi-centennial", but the actual term sounds almost like Sasquatch, making it just that much more Canadian.

We are always looking for new volunteers to help our friendly team of Leaders. We hold monthly planning meetings (usually the last Monday) where anyone is welcome to attend and contribute, or just listen till you're ready.

Happy 150th Birthday Canada!

We hope everyone in Central Japan and beyond joins us in this year-long celebration!

In any case, " Canada 150 " is the official brand by which the Canadian government his promoting this banner year, and although the actual anniversary falls on July 1st, a milestone like this will be celebrated throughout the year all across Canada and at its outposts abroad.

Japan is no exception!

The TJCS is seizing the opportunity to make this a special year in honour of Canada 150. For starters, we will be holding a larger-than-usual Canada Day Celebration at a fantastic location that will be family-friendly and full of fun and surprises. Watch the event listings for details.

In addition to that, the annual Champagne Ball and Awards Evening (co-hosted with the ACCJ Chubu Chapter) will follow a theme with a distinctly Canadian flavour, giving us a welcome opportunity to showcase Canada to an international audience.

Other things worth mentioning that are coincidental in making this an especially busy year for TJCS include:

Canada recently appointed a new Ambassador to Japan (Mr. Ian Burney) and we are excited about welcoming him to Nagoya at a luncheon in June.
Last fall, Nagoya welcomed a newly-appointed Canadian Consul (Mr. Chenier LaSalle) who has already endeared himself to the TJCS community.
The TJCS Business Committee has shown a great initiative in putting together an increasing number of events covering a wide range of topics and audiences.
The TJCS Cultural Committee has be re-activated and has begun organizing a number of successful events presenting cross-culture.
The TJCS Social Committee continues to do what it does...planning and hosting all of the tried and true events we have come to love, as well as always coming up with unique activities.

京都英語落語お楽しみツアー

提供英語落語体験

名古屋からはアメリカ人2名、オーストラリア人1名、日本人4名の8人が参加しました。

8人の英語落語家が古典落語、創作落語を披露してバラエティに富んだとても面白い寄席でした。特に関西の英語落語家は途中に関西弁も交えて演じられましたが、妙にお笑いのツボを刺激されました。

3月26日、京都御所近くの公共施設で行われた京都英語落語グループ主催の英語落語寄席に行ってきました。

四日市にも英語落語グループがあり、時々地元で英語落語を披露しています。

TJCS Cultural Committeeでは四日市の英語落語家の協力も得て、近い内に名古屋で英語落語寄席を企画します。

そして、この地方に住むたくさんの外国人に落語と言う日本の文化を学んでもらいます。

後日詳細はアップします。

寄席の後半には英語落語体験ワークショップがあり、一緒に名古屋から参加したアメリカ人が日本人の英語落語家と高座に座って面白い小噺（こばなし）を教えてもらいました。

日本の落語の小噺はアメリカのスタンダップコメディに通じる面白さがあります。彼も大変喜んで演じていました。日本の文化、お笑いを吸収してもらって良かったです。

English Rakugo Excursion to Kyoto

A geat cultural experience brought to you by the TJCS Cultural Committee

The Nagoya contingent consisted of Americans, an Aussie and a handful of Japanese - yet sadly, no Canadians :-(

But anyhow, a great time was had by all.

In total, eight English Rakugo performers entertained the crowd with variations of traditional Rakugo, as well as modern, creative rakugo. It seems that the Kanasai dialect lends itself well to English Rakugo making for a delightfully strange experience.

On March 26, 2017, the TJCS Cultural Committee guided a small group tour to Kyoto to attend a performance by an English Rakugo group near the Imperial Palace in Kyoto.

As it happens, closer to Nagoya, in Yokkaichi, there are a number of English Rakugo groups that occasionally organize English Rakugo performances. Watch for another English Rakugo excursion, organized by the TJCS Cultural Committee in the near future. Check the event listings for details.

In the second half of the event, a mini Rakugo experience workshop was held where attendees could try out their Rakugo skills. An American chap from the Nagoya contingent was able to showcase his impromptu Rakugo skills to the delight of everyone in the audience. It seems he had fun as well :-)

All in all, a great cultural experience for foreigners and Japanese alike!

Introducing Chénier La Salle – Lessons Learned In and Out of Japan

During the evening, Mr. LaSalle introduced himself formally by way of a brief presentation highlighting his international experiences both prior to and as a member of the Canadian Foreign Service. No stranger to the Tokai Region, Mr. La Salle had spent time in Nagoya as an international student, and had worked in Japan, in the private sector, prior to joining the government.

On November 2, 2016, the TJCS Business Committee hosted an exclusive event introducing Mr. Chénier LaSalle, Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner, Consulate of Canada in Nagoya, who had assumed the position in August, 2016.

Mr. LaSalle was greeted by the who's who of the Tokai Region over drinks and light Canadian delicacies prepared by the host venue - Sienna Steak House.

Lessons Learned, In and Out of Japan

The atmosphere was relaxed, if not downright festive, and all attendances had a great time thouroughly enjoying the presentation which was equally humourous and inspirational.

The Tokai Japan Canada Society looks forward to a mutually supportive relationship with Mr. La Salle over the next several years.

女子日本代表の「さくらJAPAN 」と親善試合を行います。

今月19日既に日本に到着。大阪で練習と試合を行っています。

26日には東海エリア岐阜に到着、午後から試合をPLAY !

ナショナルチームの試合はなかなか観れない貴重なチャンスです。

Canadian Women's National Field Hockey team comes to Japan!

The Canadian women's field hockey team is currently in Japan for a series of matches against the Japanese squad, "Sakura Japan".

Following a series of matches played in Osaka, the teams will travel to Gifu for the final two games in the series.

This is a rare local opportunity to come out and support two great countries and these fine athletes in what we all hope will be a precursor to seeing these two teams in the Gold Medal match in Rio.

Date: June 26th (Sun)

Place: Gifu Prefecture Green Stadium

Time: 16:00

Cost: ￥1,000 (Under 16 years is free)

Tickets: From 15:00 at Green Stadium

Sampling a variety of Canadian wines from BC, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.

The event was hosted by Sienna Steakhouse & Bar , who also provided the fabulous food for the event. Sienna is Canadian owned and operated and quickly becoming known in Nagoya as a great place for upscale dining at very reasonable prices, and the menu features a number of Canadian (or Canadian inspired) dishes.

In the 2nd installment of its "Explore Canada" series, the Tokai Japan Canada Society’s Business Committee brought together a diverse group of over 60 individuals for an exclusively Canadian Wine Tasting event.

Participants were able to sample 12 different Canadian wines from top wineries in British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, as well as a variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres made with distinctly Canadian ingredients.

The wine tasting, and accompanying explanations were organized and presented by Jamie Paquin of Heavenly Vines – a Tokyo-based purveyor of "distinctive Canadian wines" .

Not generally thought of as a wine producing Country, it was interesting to learn just how many great wines are coming out of Canada, and from coast to coast, too!

While enjoying a sumptuous brunch buffet, served up by Shooters Sports Bar & Grill, we found time to get down to business and began refining our plans for another great year of Canadian-themed events for the Tokai Region of Central Japan.

Celebrating Canada Day in Kasugai City, Japan

The annual TJCS Canada Day Celebration has gained a reputation as the not-to-miss event of the summer in the Tokai Region. This year, we will be celebrating in Kasugai City (Sister City to Kelowna, BC).

Canada Day officially occurs on July 1st, each and every year, but this year we will celebrate the occasion on June 28th (Sun)!

Join us for a great event featuring delicious food and cultural exchange with an eclectic array of great people!

This event is open to TJCS Members and non-Members! Kids are welcome too!

What to Expect

Event Details

Come dressed in red and white, or something inspired by Canada, Kasugai, or our sister city Kelowna - and join us in the celebration!

Great food, great drinks, and great company!

Join us to celebrate with freshly made burgers , Japanese-style hors d'oeuvres , and an all-you-can-drink selection.

Plus, there will be a raffle with lots of exciting prizes !

Let's make it a day to remember!

Spots are limited to 150, so grab yours early and don't miss the chance to celebrate together!

Dress Code

Dress is smart casual (colourful cool biz), and as various dignitaries will be attending we respectively request that attendees dress accordingly. (Basically, no lewd t-shirts, ragged jeans, cut-offs, etc..)

If you are unsure about what to wear, we recommend wearing clothes that include red or white (Canadian national colours) or something related to Canada (pins, badges, maple leaves, etc.) to enjoy the event.

However, please refrain from wearing hockey jerseys .

Members whose terms have elapsed will be asked to send the current year's dues along with event fees.

Registration and pre-payment (credit card or bank transfer) is required for this event. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Access & Parking

Parking is not specifically provided for this event. However, you will find a number of paid parking facilities in the immediate vicinity.

The venue is a short walk from JR Kachigawa Station.

4月5日（土）、毎年恒例の花見パーティーが開催されました。

今年は名古屋から離れ、三重県津市の偕楽公園で行われたのですが、なんと60名以上の方々に参加頂きました！

お天気にも恵まれ、満開の桜の下で、初対面同士でも気がついたら大盛り上がり！

TJCSでは、これからも名古屋だけでなく、東海エリアを中心に様々な活動を通して、国際交流を深めていきたいと考えています。

Hanami with Canadians in Kairaku Koen, Tsu City, Mie Prefecture

Although many of the 60 people who attended met each other for the first time at this event we all had a great time communicating in both English and Japanese. We could all expand on international exchange between our different cultures.

On April 5th, the TJCS held its annual Hanami event.

This year's event was held in Kairaku Park in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture.

We were blessed with nice weather and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

It was not only a very compelling story for people related to the imported house trade, but also for entrepreneurs and people who live in the Tokai area which is long overdue for its "big one".

Selco Home, a company founded in Sendai, Miyagi prefecture, has sold over 15,000 Canadian houses in Japan. Selco's Vice Chairman, Mr. Aramoto has experienced the struggle of dealing with regulations and laws of the Japanese government when they began of importing Canadian houses to Japan. A challenge exemplified during and after the Great Tohoku Earthquake.

Our Canadian ambassador, Mr. Mackenzie Clugston, who was formally inaugurated on Sep 12th, 2012 was invited to this event at the Nagoya Hilton on January 16th, 2013.

We had a very diverse crowd of over 100 guests from across central Japan including prefectural and city governments, business leaders and university officials, all interested in the Japan - Canada relationship. Many new friendships were established and many old ones reaffirmed. We hope you can join us during the year as we plan on having more events soon.

The Nagoya Hilton was our host for the eighth event in our series Canada Means Business on September 28, 2012 with Mr. Paul J. Thoppil, commercial minister, from the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo.

The presentation from Thoppil was based on the commercial relationship between Japan and Canada. It was a remarkable talk with detailed information about the ongoing work of the trade department at the embassy. The speech was held in English however the Canadian Consulate in Nagoya generously provided an interpreter for the event. This made the event a bilingual event that supported some of our attendees who were more comfortable with Japanese.

The 6th installment in the Canada Means Business speaker series

This was the sixth Canada Means Business event and our first collaboration with the ACCJ Chubu Chapter Women in Business Committee . The event was focused on " challenges faced by people who work, and overcoming them ".

We had 4 speakers who have had some sort of challenge that they overcame (to do with being a working woman, or helping a woman work by being a house husband etc.). We gave each speaker 10 minutes to introduce themselves and talk about the issue that they had and how they got through it. Speakers and participants were divided into 4 groups and everyone could ask questions to the speaker and share their own experiences.

Outline:

A lot of positive feedback from attendees was received. Most of them felt it was a unique and informative event. When we held discussion time, people could exchange their ideas and experience with speakers in a friendly atmosphere. The dinner and networking time at the beginning also helped to get acquainted.

Thanks to the speakers from a variety of fields, the discussions were quite dynamic. Some people hoped the future event would have more time to talk. Maybe such event could be held on a weekend.

Each discussion table had a volunteer interpreter, so people could feel comfortable speaking in both languages.

We are pleased to announce another successful event, the second volume in Canada Means Business; Speakers Corner series was held on Thursday November 5th with over 25 attendees from Japan, Canada, USA and Australia.

Our guest speaker, Mr. Ron Haigh, highlighted the history of the automobile, and how Toyota evolved into the international success we all know today.

Beginning with company founders Sakichi Toyoda and Kichiro Toyoda we learned how the company adapted from early mistakes to continually improve its operations. One of the key principles to this ongoing improvement explained was Monozukuri, which is a key component of Japanese industry but is also a mainstay of the Tokai business scene, monozukuri states that the goal is to add value to society by producing things of exceptional value and to do so under the spirit of kaizen or the 'spirit to produce excellent products and the ability to constantly improve a production system and process'.

Another key principle introduced by Mr. Haigh is Jidoka, which is the process of man and machine working in unison to create products in order to benefit society. This was highlighted in the viewing of the Toyota assembly line through a DVD presentation showing how Toyota continually improves its processes utilizing its employees to add value at all aspects of the production process.

The closing portion was an explanation of how Toyota continued to learn from mistakes with its launch of Lexus in North America and how even though the cars were recalled Toyota went far beyond anyone's expectations and sent technicians to owners and through this and many other measures earned the respect of the North American market with its dedication to one thing and one thing only, the customer.

The presentation was concluded with the future of hybrid technology and how Toyota is moving ahead with the Prius model and its latest release the hybrid only model which will be on sale in Japan on December 7. With only an hour and ten minutes, Mr. Haigh delivered an entertaining and powerful presentation, which left the audience eager for more.

We hope to have Mr. Haigh back for a follow up event early in the new year to finish his story as there is so much more to know about this extraordinary company.

With a company the size of Toyota, I figured that there must be other Canadian employees, but had yet to run into anyone until the Canada Means Business seminar. I started working for Toyota in 2007 after five years working for a tool and die maker in Takahama City, Aichi Prefecture. Through my years in Japan I have learned that "senpai", or superiors, are regarded as a great source of wisdom and advice, so I was eager to meet Ron Haigh and hear about his experience at Toyota over the past 20 years. Ron's speech about how Toyota has learned from its mistakes, yet remained steadfast to its principles, motivated me in my work as well. Many of the concepts were familiar to me and I already apply them everyday on the production floor, but Ron's personal anecdotes added humour to the story and made it very entertaining. Events like these give me a great networking opportunity and I look forward to participating in the future.

親愛なるビジネス委員会会員であり、その夜、司会進行をつとめた田中里佳氏により紹介されたゲストのロン・ヘイグ氏は自動車産業の歴史と、今日誰もが認めるトヨタの国際的な成功がどのようしてもたらされたのかに焦点をあてました。事業創始者である豊田佐吉と豊田喜一郎にはじまり、企業が失敗からどのように学び、その運営を継続的に改善してきたかを知ることができるものでした。

絶え間ない発展の基礎の一つには“ものづくり”という日本の産業の根幹であり、また東海地区のビジネスに主要なものでもあると言います。それは比類ない価値を持った物を作ることにより社会に価値を付加することを目標とし、また、改善という精神を基盤にして行うことであります。言い換えれば、優れたものを生み出す精神と、生産システムとその過程を日々改善する能力でしょう。

またヘイグ氏により紹介されたもう一つ主要な点に、自働カ（ジドウカ）があります。それは人と機械がともに物をつくり、それが社会に利益をもたらす過程です。ここでトヨタの組み立てラインについてDVDを通し紹介されました。それによりトヨタが生産過程のあらゆる点において価値を付加するため、作業者を活用し、その過程を日々どのように改善しているかを知ることができました。

最後にはトヨタが失敗からどのように学び続けたかを説明され、その例に北米のレクサス着手があげられました。予想以上に多くの車がリコールされ、買い手に技術者を派遣することとなりましたが、様々な方法をもってして、遂に北米市場の関心をものにすることができたかを説明されました。

スピーチはハイブリッド技術の将来と、どのように今後トヨタがプリウスモデルとともに発展していくか、また12月7日に日本で発売予定のハイブリッドモデルについて言及され締めくくられました。１時間１０分という限られた時間でヘイグ氏は楽しく、力強いスピーチを披露され、次回に更なる期待を持たせるものでした。

ヘイグ氏のストーリーを最後までじっくり聞き、この類まれな企業を更に知るためにも来年早々にも第二弾を行われることを強く希望します。.

この素晴らしい講演会のため東京から駆けつけてくれたヘイグ氏に心より感謝致します。そして司会進行の田中里佳氏、副会長・ビジネス委員会副委員長のジェームス・ヘデン氏、コミュニケーション委員会長のブルース・マッコーン氏と、このイベントのために協力して頂いた全ての方にもお礼を申し上げたいと思います。

更に、在名古屋カナダ領事のアラン・エドワーズ氏、在京カナダ大使館商務参事官であるポール・トッピル氏にも、これより将来数多くの企画を可能にするため継続的な支援を頂けることを感謝申し上げます。

アラン・エドワーズ氏在名古屋カナダ領事

先日はお忙しい中「TJCS Canada Means Business」シリーズ第一弾にお越しいただき誠にありがとうございました。

在名古屋カナダ領事のアラン・エドワーズ氏は、日本とカナダの国際的貿易関係の歴史や両国間における自由貿易交渉に関して有益な情報を提供して下さいました。また、彼は近年の不景気に触れ、何故カナダが強い銀行部門とより保守的なアプローチをする金融市場においてＧ20の国々に比べて不況の波を乗り切ったのかをひも解きました。司会を務めたブルース・マッコーンによりイベントは8時30分に終了となりましたが、参加者の方々はその後も充実した質疑応答で終始有意義な時間を過ごせました。

A presentation by Mr. Allan Edwards, The Canadian Consul for Nagoya

Thank you to all who attended this event, the first of our new series;

TJCS Canada Means Business .

The Canadian Consul for Nagoya, Allan Edwards gave an informative presentation on the history of Japan/Canada international trade relations and the latest on Free Trade talks between our two great nations. As well he discussed the current global meltdown and the theories on why Canada has weathered the storm better compared to other G20 nations due to a strong banking sector and more conservative approach to the money markets.

The presentation was well attended and lasted right up to the 8:30 event closing time. Attendees enjoyed the entertaining, yet poignant discussion which was followed with a Q & A.
