CAMP CANADA 2008

On the long weekend in September (13th - 15th), a group of 80 people headed for cooler climes in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture for some fresh air and adventure. This was our second annual camping weekend which saw a significant increase in participants.

We're sure this will be a popular event for years to come!

Check out some of the hi-lites of this event:

Accommodations

Campers had the choice of private bungalows, shared a bungalows or bringing their own tents. The tatami-floor bungalows were clean, comfortable and had lights and electricity. Futons, blankets and just about anything you might need is available for rental for those that didn't bring their own.

Great Food

Campers cooked their own food over an open fire. The TJCS sponsored one evening's BBQ (featuring hamburgers, chilly and burritos), and a breakfast of made-to-order omelets, bacon and pancakes with maple syrop cooked in whatever shape campers desired!

The Great Outdoors

We enjoyed such activities as swimming in the crisp, pristine water of the adjacent river, hiking through the forest to a beautiful waterfall, exploring caves, and for the truly adventurous spirit there was a challenging hike to the top of the surrounding mountains.

For the kids...

The kids had a blast helping with the cooking, swinging in the hammock, splashing in the river, chasing bats from the caves, and the hi-lite was a fish grabbing event where they could catch trout with their bare hands!

We're not sure who had more fun, the kids or the adults!!

Campfire - this is what it's all about

At night we enjoyed chatting and telling stories around the campfire. Of course we toasted marshmallows and made S'MOORS.

We also played games and consumed a few tasty beers.

Whitewater Rafting

Fourteen intrepid souls signed-up for the optional river-rafting tour. This was a full day of shooting the rapids of the Nagara River. The excursion included training, equipment, lunch and a whole-lotta fun!!

You won't want to miss this one next year!
